The main function of PanoTools is to turn your digital SLR pictures into panorama images. Create multiple exposures and stitch them into one image with one click. You can create panoramas from JPEG, RAW files, HD-video and even rotate the image 90 degree (around horizontal axis) for landscape shots. PanoTools is part of the Applied Photographic Technology Enterprise (APTE) product suite of software applications that includes Photomatix, Lightroom, HDR Efex Pro and HDR Efex Pro. ReviewPanoTools PanoTools for Photographers Review By Jean Robertson | Published on March 10, 2009 A couple of weeks ago I got a copy of PanoTools for Photographers (version 1.1.0). This is an application which aims to assist photographers in creating panoramas. I say “in assisting” because the application does not stitch the images. You have to do that by using the Photoshop plug-in that comes with the package. What you can do is align and rotate the images to get the best result from the panorama. There are two installation paths for the software. The first option is to install the application and plug-in directly into Photoshop CS3. If you don’t have Photoshop CS3, then you can use the application as a standalone. I chose the latter option. Once you have the application and plug-in installed on your system you can open the program by double clicking on the software file. PanoTools displays the current version of the program you are using. This is a great time saver. If you are using version 1.1.0 then you see a screen similar to this: If you are using version 1.1.1, then you see this: The two main options on the toolbar are Align and Rotate (see the screen shots above). The rest of the toolbar is split into two sections – the first section contains the controls for choosing the images, including ordering, and the second section contains the commands for the panorama creation. The controls in the first section of the toolbar are: Import – This is where you can choose the type of file you want to import into the panorama. JPEG, TIFF and PSD are the most common types of files. Raw files are also supported. I would recommend you go for the RAW format, especially if you are using an EOS
